  • pricking out and hardening off

    hi

some of my various tomato plants and spouts are starting to show, they are currently in the kitchen, when is the best time to transplant, and what should i ideally do to harden them off, with the view to grow them in the greenhouse

    Thanks

I prick tomatoes out into individual pots when the have their first true leaves. They need at least 10 degrees to grow on well, although they can tolerate lower temperatures. I put mine in the greenhouse when I can be sure of these temperatures. Some folks bring them in at night. Hard to say when that would be for you without knowing your location, but I guess mine go out towards the back end of April.
If by spouts you mean Brussels sprouts, then they would be better of in the greenhouse now as they prefer cooler conditions.

General wisdom seems to be to water from underneath, letting the potting medium soak up whatever water it needs (I think this reduces the chance of fungal growths/molds on the plants? Never been a problem for me though)
