Me again - this is the garden in its current state of chaos. Lots of moving soil and putting it somewhere else to get flat bits.

The spot i have picked out is on the right hand south facing fence. I have already got a herb garden planned right by the house and carrots will go in a sack at the bottom of the garden but i have been thumbing dreamily at potager style pictures on google.

I know i need to do crop rotation but is there a good way of kinda mingling plants together so its not all regimented?

Also, tomatoes - can they go in the ground?

If you want to plant in a haphazard way, you won't go far wrong using the SFG method, I'm doing it with all of my beds this year, have done it in the past with great results:

I have Moneymaker which looks ok for outside and a helpfully labelled "cherry" - will give it a go and see how they fair.

I wanted togrow peas and beans up the fence - do they definitely need rotating coz i am not sure where else i would put them?

Although rotatating is 'best practice' it is not the end of the world if you don't. As long as you keep an eye out for pest and diseases and be prepared to put plants elsewhere the following season at slightest signs you should be fine.

Thanks for the back link I have been toying with the idea of giving this a go this year- looks like I have a lot of reading to do on that thread. I bought the book and drew up metric versions of the planting patterns over the Winter months when planning as one does see attached

Well its progressing - lots of soil being moved about and i am gradually making my way down the right hand side for the veggies. Got another 6' then i can put the paths in

I should point out that my parents are helping me - i could never do this lot on my own! Two new fence panels, levelling the back section so we can put up a climbing frame, laying a patio, plus my little veg patch project
