What will I be able to plant?

So, I take possession of my new house the first week of June.
Am I going to be too late to start planting anything?

The veg patch will need work before I can do anything so I have written that off this year but I'd love to get something growing in planters.

My list of stuff I want to grow is :-

Peas
Carrots
Sweetcorn
Raspberries
Parsnips
Horse raddish!
Peppers
Red onion
Strawberries

Herbs

Realistically I probably wont get into the garden until mid/late June.

Hi Paul, most of those things, except maybe carrots, will need to be planted prior to June - unless you can get established plants in the GC, but I would expect it might be too late for those too.

You will be able to do some short crops such as lettuce and radish in June though.

Alternatively could you plant things in pots now and take them with you when you move?

I'll concentrate getting the lawn nice and seeing if i can get my mini veg patch in a condition suitable for growing.

I dont really have the spare time to devote t getting stuff planted before I move

I always grow runner beans in pots climbing up canes in a teepee shape, don't usually plant these until June and they do really well.

For the past two years I've sown a crop of dwarf French beans in late June, I start picking about a month to six weeks later and into October. A dozen plants gives loads.

I agree with Wendy, dwarf beans do really well, really quickly. Chantennay carrots also have a short growing period, so do radishes. All the stuff people have said that can be grown in pots, then planted when you get to the new house are all very worthwhile doing. You might get slightly less crop from them, but you'll get something to cheer you on

You might not be able to get big crops of things like spuds (although you could do Christmas spuds), but beans are a goer, and various salad bits and some brassicas toward the end of summer, plus garlic and onions for overwintering. I googled vegetable sowing timetable and got the below, and I'm sure if you had a look you'd find more extensive and interesting ideas.
