I haven't got any fleece but I've got quite a bit of debris netting not being used. So tomorrow I'm going down the allotment and I'll cover all the potatoes with it for a couple of days.

Yep take a look at Alans Allotment: Brother P-Touch Label Maker what ever you do don't buy the green one for made for gardening its the same thing but green plastic and they hike up the price but include a case for it. I just found a case from something else to put it in I also don't buy the Brother own brand tapes but the compatible ESELLER Direct Tape ESD-231 8mm tapes at about a 1/5th of the price off ebay or Amazon

The labels do not fade in the sun and I recover, wipe them down and put back in my toolbox / seed box tray.

I got the green gardening one as a present last year and it's great. I use it the same way as Cadalot. Thanks for the tip about compatible tapes, Cadalot, I'll try those next time!

Another vote for the brother P-touch label printers. Bought one because I discovered that indelible permanent marker does fade in the sun and I didn't have a clue what was what.

I also use the compatible tapes and they haven't degraded at all. The printed labels have been UV stable for at least a year now and I now use them for everything.

At less than three quid for an 8m cartridge, they're cheap too (mine are a bit more funky than Cadalot though as I buy the bright orange and yellow tapes )

Great info re cheaper alternative tape - I've got one of the green label printers, but it ran out ages ago and I kept forgetting to source some replacement, and all labels have been written in pencil ..... does the job but with my rubbish eyes and no specs in GH, makes for difficult reading...!

I've got the Brother P-touch 2030VP Labelling machine which I can connect to my PC, this thread reminded me I need to get a load of tapes for it.

Lucky you, Cad! For my area, Metcheck is still forecasting 3 degrees and 100% ground frost risk for tomorrow night.

I've decided to take a gamble and see what Monday brings.

Bummox - Just checked using Metcheck.com - Accurate UK Weather Forecasts with Live Data and so much more... as you suggested and sure enough it shows from 9pm Sat to 3am for my postcode it's 0 degrees which is not what the BBC says so I know where I will be looking in future.

Thanks for the tip on Metcheck. Tonight should be ok for us but saturday night could be as low as 2 so I will be bringing what I can indoors overnight just in case. BBC says 6 degrees so slight difference of opinion. I will err on side of caution.

Just hope the outdoor runners will be ok. No frost predicted so fingers crossed.
LOVE growing food to eat in my little town back garden. Winter update: currently growing overwintering onions, carrots, lettuce, chard, salad leaves, kale, cabbage, radish, beetroot, garlic, broccoli raab, some herbs.
