suddenly floppy flat seedling courgettes....

As tile states, had grown seedlings from courgette seeds indoors, happy I thought (first year with patch) suddenly to they have flopped over and the top part of the stem has gone flat!!!! What have I done wrong? I have planted some more seeds today as back up but wondered what I had done?

They are still in pots I had popped them outside for a couple of hours yesterday because it was warm thinking I need to harden off slowly. I hate the fine line between watering too much and too little.... or I guess maybe I have shocked they with their little day trip to the park

Mine are bit that way , mine are indoors , mums are better In her greenhouse , I'm a lot colder here than hers so I'm hoping after this cold spell I can harden off and get out.

From the look of the seedling I would say that it has been kept too warm and possibly too wet and not enough light. Also they are a bit small to start hardening them off. Keep the next lot a bit cooler and start to harden them off when they have one or two true leaves.

Totally agree with roitelet. Once the seed breaks through it will need plenty of light, yours looks like it has been struggling to find light.

Thanx for reply guys, not sure where else to place them as I only really have the one windowsill that can't fit all different seedlings so had placed them ontop of dresser so light thing would make sence....

I have a plastic sheet shelf moveable green house thing that my peas and cabbages are really happy in should I put courgettes out there? Last frost has past for me or should I just head straight for seeds in the ground?

Yes, Peas & Cabbages can come out of the greenhouse & put your Courgettes in & see how they fair, I would sow some more though just in case.

Resow now in pots but keep them indoors in heat until the leaves break through. If you can keep them at 25 degC they will be up in a few days.

Then move them to a cooler place with lots of light and they will be massive before you know it.

Harden off outside but they do not like to be blown around so a little stick tied to the stem helps.

When planting outside do not plant deeper than they are in the pots and protect from slugs.
