  • How late can I harvest jalapeno chillis?

This year is the first time I have grown chillis, and I have about a hundred green jalapenos still on their plants in the greenhouse....
Two ripened a fortnight ago but nothing since, despite ripe tomatos and banana skins!

How long dare I leave them in the hope of ripening?

Or should I find some good recipes for preserving green jalapenos next weekend?

    Thanks 😃

Are they all green at the moment?
Most Jalapenos can be picked and used green....

      Yes, all are green.
Picked two red ones about 3 weeks ago, which was from the plant I picked up as a plug . The other 11 plants are grown from seed, so the plants didn't flower until around 6 weeks after the plug plant one.

Pickled Jalapenos are easy to make and keep for ages

definitely pickled jalapenos - they're best when they're green.

They will continue to ripen indoors so may be worth bringing them in and leaving them for a little while, gives you time to dig out the recipe books

How many will you need to make a peck of pickled peppers?

I'm not a big fan of any capsicum annuum varieties but red jalapenos are a little bit sweeter than green and I find them a bit more palatable.

                    Everyone to their own

But if I want sweeter, I grow sweet peppers

Picked two and a half pounds in all. Froze about a quarter of them and pickled the rest.
Then rubbed my eye by mistake.....

Thinking I should try to overwinter a couple of plants, then hopefully will get a few more red ones next year
