I'm also new to all of this and set up my bin in mid December.

I think I may have added too much shredded paper & leaves to mine, is there a "right" ratio of browns to greens?

Also is there any household waste that you wouldn't add to the bin, i.e. onions or onion skins, or citrus fruits & peel? I watched one of the many you tube clips on the subject & one fellow was convinced that citrus fruit keep the worms at bay, so he removed it.

        Thanks!

Don't worry to much about compost nutrients washing away, once the biological soil life gets to work it creates a lovely glue like chemical that keeps the soil structure together and allows moisture to move through or stay put as required.
There is a yootoob video by Mark at 'I Am Organic Gardening' that explains the science quite well with a couple of jam jars and some water (blue peter moment).

If you have 7 mins it's well worth the effort, beware his knowledge and teachings can get adictive.
