First year trying aubergines - from what peeps have said here it might be the last! I love them though so fingers crossed they work. Suspect they & the melons may disappoint me.....

Maybe we need a "Likely to fail" thread or "Prepare to be disappointed" or even "Don't waste your time"
I'd put aubergines and melons in there

I get lots of fruit when I grow them in well-fed pots or in the ground outside (usually Ophelia F1 for baby aubs), but nearly nothing when I grow them in a greenhouse. Even with tapping the flowers or hand pollinating them. There has to be something in that, so this year they're all going out when it's warm enough.

Round here I can't even get them to flower outside, just not warm enough. I also had no luck in pots in the greenhouse but they do really well grown direct in the beds. I assumed that was my inadequate feeding / watering regime in the pots though as find the beds generally more productive

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I just sowed Farmer's Long and Baby Belle. Maybe I need to seek professional help.

                    Hi All,

I have successful and unsuccessful years with Aubergines, I have never kept them outdoors, always in the greenhouse. Do you not have issues with caterpillars when grown outdoors?

I tried last year, 5 lovely healthy plants. Lots of flowers, even in November, but only 1 aubergine..grrrr

Not here. I had a problem with slugs last year, but then they ate EVERYTHING last year.

I've informed OH aubergines may not work, he is now accusing me of pre-emptively blaming my seeds for my failure to produce aubergines!

Well, very interesting! Not just me then .... good, she said with an edge of relief. I think I shall give them another bash this year - sow earlier, try a couple of different varieties and put them outside in a nice sunny spot on the patio. Now, all we need is the weather! Aaaargghh!
