I soak my peas over night then leave them in a tray to sprout until they chit, then they're sown in a length of guttering filled with MPC. After hardening off its easy to slide the whole lot sideways into a pre-dug channel in my bed. I find this way much easier than planing out individual pots or loo rolls.

I've just "sown" 100 Sweet peas in cotton wool in plastic cake containers from the supermarket. 50 are in the fridge and the other 50 are in the kitchen.
I know these are not edible peas but you wouldn't expect me to stick to the rules, would you.

What type of cake? It may make a difference. I suggest you eat 2 each of Victoria Sponge, Black Forest Gateaux, Mississippi Mud Cake and double fudge chocolate cake and let us know the results.

Peas are so easy if you sow them into lengths of guttering, bit of compost, drizzle peas onto it, more compost on top then a good watering in and leave them alone till you see shoots appearing (dont let them dry out though), and then when they look sturdy make a little channel in your bed the same depth and shape of a piece of guttering and slide out your sown gutter peas in 12" lengths to fill the trench, water in and leave to grow.. I love this method! have a look at the following clip as it was this guy I got the idea off!
