I highly recommend in your first year of growing you just have at it. Dig a hole and drop in the spud, pop in a bean or a line of peas. Then read on the plants that grow as they grow.
Weeds will come and contaminate a sterilised bag of imported soil. As soon as birds land they will drop seeds. Anyone walking across your new soil in boots full of soil from elsewhere could be vectors bringing seed filled soil.
Insects and pests, diseases and all matter of food eaters, are heading your plants way, so just have a go anyway.
That first year of ignorance is full of gardening bravado I so wish I still had.
