This weekend I am thinking of choosing which of my tomato seedlings to keep and pot on and which to kill off. How should I choose which ones to keep? The tallest? The most leaves?

My priority would be to pick the healthiest. The tallest may be that way due to lack of light. Post a pic & lets see if they are ready.sigpic“Gorillas are very intelligent, but they don't have to be as delicate as chimps -- they can just smash open the termite nest,”

Usually there are people who are happy to have your spares. If there's nobody in your immediate circle interested, there will be people on things like Freecycle, or neighbours you don't know yet on NextDoor.Location....East Midlands.

leaves touching can help spread disease between plants.
Aphids are vectors of disease and virus they can spread across plants.
Air circulation between plants at the correct temperature also helps healthy plant growth.
A plants natural growth pattern can be affected by objects in its way.... in annuals it is not so important, but in perennial plants you wish to grow an ideal specimen it is important to give space. So A head gardener I met once told me.Before you spray a single thing,
sit down and read the silent spring.

I think tomatoes always turn out healthy so only sow maybe one more than needed & then pot them all on,I have a few spares friends take home. If you pot some on in plastic cups, put them on a table saying free plants, someone might pick one up (depends where you live & if anyone walks past ) you could make someone happy for monthsLocation : Essex
