Year 2,22 year old gardener advice ?

Hi there my names John, I'm 22, and I love gardening so much and spend much of my time researching my new found love, may be a bit sad as I'm only 22 but it gives me a great feeling, had a very successful year of tomatoes and strawberries last year with my new greenhouse and was amazing and all tasted great, I'm sticking with the tomatoes again this year and would like some advise from you veterans, I'm also going to start trying to grow olive trees this year from seedling and also seed as my girlfriend loves them just as much as tomatoes if not more hope to hear back soon thank you !

Hi John and welcome and welcome to the mad house - age doesn't matter, if you love mucking about in the garden / lottie you'll fit in.

Well done with toms and strawberries - they taste soon much better than shop bought don't they? Agree with BM - olives in the UK probably won't fruit but they make a nice ornamental tree. Try some salad stuff - easy, quick and loads cheaper than buying.

I've had an olive tree for about 10 years, its had a few wizened olives, nothing like a real olive. I believe there's a complicated brining process too!
You need to find something else to grow that your girlfriend likes

You may want to look at other food you like to eat to extend your crops.

Sweetheart Melons do ok in the greenhouse.

Where abouts are you John? Do you have any growing space other than the greenhouse? What sized greenhouse is it?

Do you or your girlfriend use a lot of herbs such ans oregano, bail, thyme, rosemary, coriander? Do you like spicy foods? Do you like deserts?

At 22 it may not be the height of cool but it certainly beats what is supposedly cool. For me it was clubbing and getting hammered, pub and getting hammered, driving around at stoopid o'clock in the morning. Nothing like being your own person (Yes, I have never been cool)

What other space do you have besides the greenhouse. If you like salads then some salad leaves and a cue to go with ya toms. Then if you can manage a couple of large pots I would do a tepee of climbing French beans and a courgette (provided you like them).

First time I tried to grow anything it was toms, cues and runner beans. The runner beans were so satisfying as I got a huge crop!

welcome mate, wish I stumbled across this forum sooner myself its been a wealth of knowledge for me, good luck with the olives and Strawberries and tomatoes.. you could always have a bash at chillies if you have some spare room in the greenhouse? make a nice hot sauce from them and just add as little or as much as you like to curries or be insane like me and use for dipping
