  • Recommend me some TALL peas ?

I have grown tall heritage peas

    - Champion of England

    - Telephone

this year, they were sold as reaching 7 feet plus and I have been very pleased with them. They have been fun and the height has been very useful for visual interest and pest prevention.

I would like to try some additional TALL pea varieties next year, of around the same heights.

Can anyone suggest some varieties ? - heritage varieties are of most interest but I am open to interesting modern ones.

    Thanks.

Lord Leicester, Serpette Guiloteau are good. This year I'm also trying some climbing soup peas

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

      Thanks.

Climbing soup peas sound intriguing - do they take the bowls up with them?

You've left out sugar snaps...if that wasn't on purpose Magnolia Blossom Tendril Pea and the purple variant Sugar Magnolia are fabulous. They are fairly new varieties, reach over 7ft and the flowers are beautiful-pink and red fading to blue.

For mangetout try golden sweet (yellow) & bijou (enormous pods). I like telephone for eating raw & find lord Leicester less sweet and better for cooking.
              Another happy Nutter...

Alderman/Telephone and Ne-Plus-Ultra perform well for me.
