I got some Sturon onion sets in the spring, but won't be able to use them until next year? They cost next to nothing, but will they keep or should I ditch and buy new again next year?

If they are soft/papery---bin em.
If they are hard plant them somewhere sheltered but sunny? and use them as spring onions.
If you intend to plant them as proper onions---they will bolt early next year--guaranteedFeed the soil, not the plants.
(helps if you have cluckies)
