Hi all,
I could do with a little bit of advice.
Last year I purchased a propagator, however didn't really put it to much use, so it is all a bit new to me.
This year, I have tried to start a few things in doors, with a hope of learning more in time to get everything ready for the garden, and possibly getting some early flowers & veggies etc.
As growing from seed is new to me, and something that has never really been very successful in the past, I am a little unsure on how to treat the seedlings.
I have successfully germinated some broccoli, sweet peppers, chillies, basil, oregano & a few variations of flowers including Marigold, Asters and Geraniums. I know that most of these cannot go out until after the last frost, so I have moved them from the propagator to a sunny windowsill to try & avoid them getting too leggy.
I am aware that not all seeds grow as strong as the next, so you basically pick out the stronger ones and disregard the weaker.
But, here is my problem... As soon as things germinate, (based on advice) I remove them from the propagator onto a sunny window ledge, although it is warm it is not as warm as the prop (obviously). I leave them hear to sunbathe.
Somethings are doing great, the marigolds are looking healthy & quite a bit of the basil as well. But the oregano and broccoli is fading, going limp & just dying out.
Are they too warm? Too dry? Too cold? Or is it just the weaker seedlings?
I've tried moving them to another windowsill, but to no avail.
Can anyone give me any tips?
Should I mist them rather than put some water in the tray?
Could they need more light?
Or could it be that the window is too cool for them?
Also, at what point should I prick out the stronger seedlings into separate pots?
Thanks in advance & apologies if these are all silly questions.... Like I said, this is all new to me.
