Don't give up on your seeds too soon

A couple of weeks ago I was in a store which had a sale on for seeds - 1 packet for 99p or 2 for £1. Having found one lot which I wanted and not wishing to have my membership card for the "mean gardening club" revoked, I spent a while trying to find something-else. In the end I settled on some Bunyard's broad beans as at least being a different variety to the ones I had at home.

There were 9 beans in the packet and as I usually do with most seeds I put them to germinate on some damp kitchen roll in a plastic box in my airing cupboard. A day or so later 4 seeds were ready to put in pots and the others were just sitting there. Over a week later 2 more have just germinated - I'll keep an eye on the other 3.

So the moral of the story is :- "not all seeds are equal, but don't give up, as you may get a result, if you give them some time".

Good advice, and it's not just seeds. I was thinking yesterday that my planted ginger roots really weren't doing anything while taking up the bulk of the space in my propagator. But then, looking down the edge of the pot, I can see a nubbin coming up. No greenery yet, but at least one of the three pots is definitely doing something

Just to complete the story. Planted out the ones that germinated quickly yesterday - now about 6" high - two more lates still in pots and the ninth one has finally germinated, and I can see a hint of green shoot on this just arounfd the soil level.

I "bought" a plant of this a couple of years ago, just 'cos it looked nice. It must have gone to seed last year, lost in the middle of the mint. This year, its popping up everywhere, mostly where i don't want it - like the middle of a path.
Seems to be a tough cookie once its gets going.

I had this in my garden when I first moved in, and after twelve years of trying to get rid of the stuff, it's still there - still popping up wherever it fancies. I only just realised it was edible, so now it'll be chopped and into salads at my every opportunity.
It likes bog too - the pond plant place I work at sells this.
The leaves are pretty, but I can't say I like it when it grows bigger. Maybe it'll be better on my plate lol
