  • Hedgehog caused leggy tomato!

So, having put a load of tomato seeds in the boiler room for some nice heat, they've been forgotten about and this has occurred. They've been on the windowsill for roughly 48 hours now with no real change, but since it's rained all that time it's not surprising.

The slight issue I now have is I'm away for three nights, so only have today to repot. Is it advisable to repot and do so with only the leafs popping out, or is it best to leave them?

As a great excuse the boiler room was being blocked by this little one we had to rescue.

If It were me, I'd start again and try for stronger plants.

You could try potting them so that most of the stalk is buried in the new pot.

    Best luck

I've another batch already in the works too, so it's not a must do in saving them but if there's a chance I might as well try.

I would scrap them and start again.
The stem looks too delicate to bury in the soil.
They hadn't even got their first set of true leaves yet.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

I'd leave them alone for a week, preferably in a position with more direct light and see how they look then.

One thing about tomatoes, which is different to most other plants, is that they can be transplanted much deeper than their previous soil level, because they can form new roots on their stems.
