  • Can anyone help with this tomato seedling problem/disease?

Hi there, I started some 'chadwick' variety seeds around 10 days ago and they sprouted up in the last couple of days in the recent warm weather here in the UK. They are being kept in a small greenhouse which I close up at night (bad?). This morning I noticed a few of them have developed these problems. Is this a bacteria/virus? Or a result of temperature fluctuations/water imbalance?

New to growing and keen to work without additives. Should I cull these diseased specimens and hope for the best?

    Thanks!

    Hi and welcome
I'm not sure what "problem" you're worried about. You seem to have the seed case left on the tips of some leaves - this will fall off and leave a discoloured tip beneath it. This is normal.
These are only seed leaves so wait until the real leaves grow and see how they look.
Beware that they're not overheating in the GH at the moment - direct sun won't do them any good. I close the GH overnight and the weather is supposed to be changing - again!!

They look fine to me - give them a chance!

I agree with the others - so far so good.

If I'm interpreting the photos correctly you have these seedlings currently in something like egg cartons - if so I'd suggest putting them in small plastic pots asap - yogurt pot size or similar, to make it easier to keep the roots damp.

          Hi Jinglelocks.and welcome.
Like others have said they look fine st the moment.
Not to disagree with others but, I wouldn't pot them into individual pots until they have their first set of true leaves.
A small plastic greenhouse can build up heat very quickly so keep an eye on the temp.
I also close my greenhouse at night.
Good luck with the growing and keep us posted.

Thank you for the reassurance everyone, it's been a very hot couple of days here and I'm sure the nights are much cooler so it may be a bit of temperature stress. I am keeping this batch in egg cartons just to try it out and I think they wick a lot of moisture away from the soil! I have another batch in better soil in plastic seed trays that I'm waiting to see pop up. Will update as I go
