Despite disturbance...

from neighbours dog... we've another layer! Pepper has layed her first egg today.

I'm so pleased - I was abit worried about her (she's the Bluebell chook) - there had been some nasty poo's about the garden and I think she was the culprit. I gave them 'stuff' for internal parasites in their water over the weekend and some poultry spice to boost their health.

So thats 10 eggs in total now (am I right to be counting them or is that sad? )

My BlueBelle, Lady Penelope has yet to lay. She is really inquisitive and makes a really noisy sound around the coop. She is also the bully, but I still am very fond of her.

That's good news, and I keep a tally of the eggs, don't see why not, it's really amazing when the numbers start mounting and I work out the cost of the eggs against the cost of getting hens, their eggs are currently costing £3.01 each so I feel very generous when I give some away.

They are very superior eggs - But funny that you should mention it, sales have not been great...they have come down in price however, they were £400 each at one time!

I just did the calculation - cost of housing, cost of birds, feed etc.... We're down to £1 per egg!

And that is with only two of the three remaining birds in lay!

Have you noticed that having made the capital outlay for the henhouse the additional cost of extra birds is minimal?

It gives one ideas.........
