  • Can chickens get temperatures if they are feeling poorly?

    Evening Everyone
My young cockerel is feeling very under the weather due to being bullied and pecked.
He has retreated into himself, got all snotty and generally listless. He had a better day yesterday as we have separated him and his sister, put them up in a 5 star abode (my hall) for the evening and given him lots of TLC.
I know this sound a little Dotty (sorry for that!) but he feels a little warmer than normal (whatever that it).
    Can chicken get temperatures?
Am I just being daft as a brush?
If I am not, then what do I give him to relieve his heat? Calpol???!!!
    Thanks in anticipation
I do love my chickens. Am I being a little neurotic?Go on you can tell me the truth, I can take it, I'm a big girl now.

A little fresh air should cool him down, put him in the garden with some cool water.

Antibiotics from the vet. If you dont treat quickly the rest will probably catch the infection too. Treat all if needed. You need to act quickly, from experience I know this to be true.

I know under VMD rules I cant tell you what to do, other than get one chook to the vet, and I would bet he would give you anitibiotics to treat them all.

All animals and birds get a high temperature with an infection.I wouldn't give him any human remedies as these could have adverse effects.A vet will give you minute quantities of antibiotics for him and advise you on safe"human"medicines.
