another hen has died on me,found her in the nest,she not layed eggs for a while,i just thought she was having a rest,i wonder if it's on account of them being a hybrid,from what i was reading,they have all been treated the same,the other 3 are in fine fettle,i am sad,but nature has her ways,and life goes on,i would not have anymore hybrids,the 3 left give us plent of eggs to go at ,

Yes hybrids are egg laying machines and wear out quickly. I moved away from hybrids onto breeds, but they have not been laying for ages - so 9 hens to keep! I think I might get a few hybrids next time one of mine goes broody just to fill that gap, although we freeze surplus eggs in the summer which are perfectly fine so long as you don't want a boiled egg!
