  • Dog question but chook related!

    I have noticed that my dog has occasionally pinched the chicken feed which I shouted at her for (we don't have her 'stealing')... but then shock horror I saw her also eating their poo!!!

    Now, I feel fortunate that she isn't a dog with many particular bad habits (poo rolling, rubbish eating etc etc.) so this was quite a shock.

    Is it ok for her? Do I try and stop her or just leave her to cleaning up the garden?

    Yup, my woofers also eat poo - horse poo, chicken poo, rabbit poo, sheep poo....

    Can't stop them, they just wolf it down

    They will also eat the chickens and rabbits feed if given half the chance (and rotten plums from the tree)

    No accounting for taste!

      Chooks eat slugs, slugs carry lung worm, dogs can die from lung worm. I don't let the terriers anywhere near the chooks. Too risky!

          Ooohh licking faces - nope! As I said she's not got alot of bad habits and the closest she gets to licking is the odd toe

          Thanks for info re lung worm... yucky yucky yucky! So eating chook poo is a big NO NO! Glad as I found it quite disgusting.

            Puppy doesn't mind when I lick her face so why shouldn't she lick mine!

              We can't stop our woofers from eating poo

              We often find them lying on the (horse) muck heap...

              They are allowed to give "kisses" but only when asked....

                Is that before or after you have given them a full bath with disinfectant and scrubbed their teeth!

                <shudder>
