  • Off lay?

My chickies seem to be going off lay

They are all eating well, I can't see any parasites on them and they were recently Verm-X-ed. They don't look like they're in moult either.

We have gone down from 4 eggs a day on Saturday to just 1 a day on Sunday, Monday and today.

As far as I know, they've not been scared or upset by anything either...

Could they be going off lay already?

    Mine are the same

As their egg laying capabilities are linked to daylight hours - which are shortening at a high rate of knots - I think you'll find your girls are ok, it's just that time of the year

One of mine has never been 'in lay'

I have three, and get on average 2 eggs a day. No change yet.

I did read that on average a chicken that lays 6 eggs a week will go to laying 4 eggs a week. Of course depending on breed etc. also.

I'm with you Witch - I also have a bird that has never laid!

I noticed a drop from one egg per bird per day down to about 4 a week per bird a few weeks ago - my birds have quite a dark house with little natural light getting in, so since they only get up at around 6:45am and are back in their roost by 6:45pm - I assume not enough daylight to trigger full laying.

If Kiev would decide if she is a she or a he and actually produce something positive such as either an egg or a recognisable hackle feather or two......
The weeks and the years are fine. It's the days I can't cope with!

My chickies are on the same timings as this and I get 2-3 eggs per day from 4 chooks. But I've only had them a week and am pleased to get any eggs at all given the upheval they've had!

Same here, 4-5 from 12. Got a couple of girls who are quite content to stay in shed most of the day too. Just letting them get on with things in their own time. I sit and watch them pootle about for ages.
