Oh, so sorry Birdie Wife. seems the little b****rs are pretty resourceful when it comes to getting a meal, how awful.
Life may not be the party we hoped for but since we're here we might as well dance

I had to go and dispose of the bodies last night. I don't mind admitting I was a bit teary.

Had we never loved sae kindly
Had we never loved sae blindly
        Never loved, and never parted
We had ne'er been broken hearted.

Felt much better after a good cry though! OH has tightened up the security and little bantie was seen in the wicker basket this morning about to lay an egg. What a little treasure

          Me To

Hi all, im new to this chicken lark and got 6 point of lay black rock last saturday. I built a nice coop and a nice fullproof run out of harris fencing sunck in the round about a foot. Was it full proof ? No, went down the lottie this morning as normal only to see one of me we gals dead in the corner of the run. Mr or Mrs fox must of waited at the outside corner were thers a 2/12inc gap and snapt at one of em .It just ripped and pulled it through the gap.
Iv sorted the corners now so fingers crossed il be ok.
Sorry to read about the other fox problems.

The foxes are really bad this year!

My sympathy to those who have lost birds - I can't begin to imagine how it feels - I hope I never have to find out!

Quick update, as I was speaking to the keeper yesterday who's been out lamping the last couple of nights. He said he hadn't seen any foxes BUT there was a huge pine marten sat on the wall outside our house not long ago. So it would seem the likely culprit, especially as bits had been ripped off the coop during the attack. So definitely no chance of getting rid, as I am fairly sure we'd be on fairly dodgy legal ground even by live trapping the animal. At least they are very shy and highly unlikely to attack during the daytime. Coop security has been majorly beefed up and we haven't had any troubles since the attack. So I'm off to the Dingwall Rare Breed Sale in November to see what bargains I can pick up. Can't have a great big coop and two birds in it. Besides, Rene's amorous intentions are getting too much for my one bantam hen!! Poor thing.

A pine martin! I would say you are lucky to have one - but I doubt you agree

Have fun at the sales, don't spent too much!
