i had a ferret come in my garden and kill 3 baby rabbits in front of my daughter and i called the RSPCA to come get it after catching it in there run they were in no hurry till i said i was gonna pull its neck if they wernt there that day and i got told that if i did i could get done for cruelity.they wanted me to feed it and give it water. i will add theres no way i could have killed it but they didn't know that they came within the hour.I'd rather regret the things i've done than regret not doing them at all.

Yes, unfortunatly, no matter how much damage foxes, ferrets and other peoples dogs do to your livestock/pets if you retaliate by harming the 'pest' it is you who are in the wrong.
The only options available are to phone the police (for dogs) the RSPCA (for wild animals) or the rat man. If you take the offender to the vet and have it put down and it was someones pet you can be sued.
That said one can put poison down for rats and mice I believe. It has to be done in a certain way, such that birds, badgers and cats can't access it - never having had to do this (my cats, while totally useless really, often bring the offending mice to me - alive!)
I am not sure exactly how one would go about it.The weeks and the years are fine. It's the days I can't cope with!
