  • From Little Acorns

I just thought I'd share some pictures of how my chicken run has developed recently. We got 4 ex batts in October, Maud, Fattima, Marrianna and Shallot, we got a call a few weeks ago asking us to take on a disabled ex bat called Bea and of course we said yes. I then had to extend the run to give Bea her own batchelorette pad until she is accepted by the rest. We have a lot of cats and urban foxes in the area so the chickens can only free range when supervised. I'd love to see where you all keep your girls if you have any pics.

    Ive gone from this:

    To this, as of yesterday:

I'm quite proud of it, what do you think.

      Thanks BW

Our neighbours love them so far (free eggs go a long way), we have our names down for a couple more from the next rescue in March but no more after that, I think 7 is enough. I saw the jumper link, a couple of people on the chicken forum my wife uses have actually knitted them fot their chucks. Hilarious.

        Hi Rooster

Looks 1st class. Our chickens are kept in a Omlet Cube. I tried to download some pictures when I first got them but they were too big. As two escaped a couple of weeks ago we are planning a proper fence at the bottom of the garden and a designated, fox proof chicken area in amongst the trees. We're a bit fed up of all the chook poop on the grass and I don't want them eating my veg.
Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.

Looks brilliant. We are collecting some ex batts for the first time in March. Were yours alright when you got them, I have heard that some are infested with red mites so I want to be prepared.

Cottage garden, ours were OK really no mites etc. 2 were better than the others so I think some farms have better conditions than others. Bea has terrible feet and can only hop on one leg.

The others were healthy but very bedragled

I Think You'll agree they look much better now.

Good Luck With Yours For March.

            Tracey,

Have you been on the Omlet forum on their web site? My wife goes on there a lot, her name is "poet"

            Regards, Ian

Thanks Rooster. Yours do look much better now for your love and care. Its heartbreaking seeing them featherless like that. I will have to steel myself..

                Chook Palace.

Hey Rooster that looks a mighty fine coop. I see you even have one of those potbelly stove things that my spell checker cannot agree on, to keep them warm.

I also see you have a dividing fence, is somebody a bully..?

we only got Bea yesterday so I'm keeping her seperate until they get acquainted, they will bully newbies (especially when they're disabled like she is)

Cheers for that. Do you qualify for a disabled chicken sticker..?

Seriously, well done for taking them on. Go on you.
