I've still got the bag that came with the hens and bought everything together but I think it was about £6. They are on layers pellets and I put grit in the run, the food and water I put in the house so it stays dry. I haven't got a pop hole so I open and close the door morning and evening but they put themselves to bed - very addictive too I am already preparing ground to build another enclosure and I've only had the four marys for a week

Unless they are free range or you let them out of the run for a while each day, they'll need a little fresh greens every day. Ours love the leaves from our broccoli plants, lettuce (even the tatty old bits that have overwintered), spinach, beetroot tops, cabbage and even sorrel, but I try to steer them clear of eating too much of that as it's poisonous in large quantities.
And they seem to love grapes more than anything, so I'm going to plant a couple of vines!
Also, and this is less cheery, but very sensible and I would never have thought of it, my OH got a 'dispatcher' from the Ascot catalogue - just in case they were ill or suffering in any way and we needed to help them on their way with as little stress or discomfort as possible.

I buy mash from a local feed store, at about £7.50 a bag and mixed corn at the same price. I keep all grub in a big sturdy black bin. Flint and oyster grit will be something you need too. They absorb calcium from oyster for good strong shells, and flint helps with digestion.
You'll never regret getting them.Kirsty b xx
