  • I've converted my sister!

On a lighter note, my sister has decided she would like a few hens in the back garden and I'm helping her out.

I'm giving her a house I got on the freecycle and a few of my ex-bats. (will wait until I know they are all ok first now though - see previous thread)

I did want to put together a little chicken kit too as a present.
So far I have thought of
Book - Katie Thears's Starting wth Chickens
    Louse Powder
    Red Mite Powder
    Poultry Spice
I was planning on getting them a bit at a time, so it doesn't cost too much all in one go. Any other bits and bobs I could put in for her?

I was thinking more about stuff you don't realise you need until you actually need it.

Don't forget a small amount of whatever food they are used to. Sometimes, another manufacturers feed can make quite a difference to taste along with the moving this could be enough to put them off their food for a while. If they have some of their current food with them it is possible to mix with new feed to accustom them to the new flavour. If your sister will use the same supplier as you, then no problem of course.

Wish I could get a house and run sorted
    Happy Gardening,
    Shirley

That's great! I would recommend Francesca Popedescu's book (not sure if I've splet that right!!) "Hens in the Garden, Eggs in the Kitchen" as some light reading about chickens and lots of lovely recipes, all egg related

What's the problem with housing Shirl?

        worming powder?
or what about just some marmite bread for there first day to give them b vitamins and help them feel less stressed?
        egg boxs, she'll need those.
a chair to sit and watch them in?
        Yo an' Bob
        Walk lightly on the earth
        take only what you need
        give all you can
and your produce will be bountifull

Cor I wish you were my sister Kirsty, I'm seriously getting tempted to get some chooks.
