Hi, we're on with building our chicken coop.

Can anyone tell me the standard size of a pop hole please? We don't have any chickens yet to compare the size to.

    Cheers

25cm by 25cm should do the trick
    Yo an' Bob
    Walk lightly on the earth
    take only what you need
    give all you can
and your produce will be bountifull

      That sounds right to me.

One thing I would suggest is having the door sliding upwards, rather then sideways. Ours does the latter and it means we can't use an auto-opener if we want to.

The hen-house was a freebie, but I wish I'd built my own!

        Hi Paul,
Do you mean an 'auto opener' which works on a sensor?

They work on a light sensor - close at dusk, open at dawn - great invention!
          Downside is £75 (Wells Poultry/Ascott)
But it means your life does not centre around tucking them in at night!

            Hi Vicky,

Thanks for that; great for me as I work all sorts of odd hours & when I finally get my chooks I want them to be safe even though I am not sure if we do have foxes around here

              Hi, Thanks for the help.

I think £75 is a bit much for us at the moment, we're trying to do this on a budget, hence building our own, I would have loved an Eglu cube, but alas it wasn't to be.

It's going well though, and it's grown, it's 6'6" wide at the moment!!!!

Exactly, thanks Vicky. Worth saving up for I think... or watching for on ebay maybe?
