Since buying the house we currently live in (because of the garden even before seeing the house) I have always wanted chickens at the bottom of the garden. Have been reading the posts on here for a while, so many different types of runs etc etc, but really want to go for it! Think I will and will be asking loads of questions, the 1st one now.....

We have 2 guinea pigs, very tame, they have a hutch which is open at all times and a large enclosed run around 10' x 10', could this be extended to incorporate an extra run for keeping chickens, would they get on? Maybe a daft question but you don't know unless you ask

Really don't know about mixing the hens and the guinea pigs. The hens will destroy all the grass that the g'pigs need.

The minimum recommended space for hens in a run is 1 metre square for each hen but the more space the better.

I would strongly advise against mixing chickens and guinea-pigs - chickens will kill small mammals and birds

Last year I caught mine playing with a freshly-killed mouse that they had presumably caught after it snuck into their run to steal food!

Think I would agree with Eyren, my chickens chase the cats and give each other pecks all the time. Might damage a little guinea pigs if kept enclosed with each other?
