Ive had my first double yolker this morning! The size of the egg was amazing - bless whichever one laid it! OUCH! As per usual, a delicious taste!

We had our first large egg on Saturday it was about two and a half inches long and quite big around the middle and when opened it was a double yoker the yokes were as big as an ordinary single egg. I am so proud of whoever laid it.
I have 6 Rhode Island Reds and as they are quite large birds so I wondered if that is why they lay large eggs

My smallest hen (ex-batt, I think probably an ISA-Brown) lays the biggest eggs of my 3, they look almost like duck eggs as they have a much paler shell than the other 2 lay and don't actually fit in a standard egg box, I sold some last week and had to tape the lid down as it wouldn't shut! I've no idea how she does it as she's about a 1/3 smaller than the other 2 and half bald at the moment.. hen size and egg size just don't seem to collerate with mine at least, she's also the boss of the other 2, keeping them in their place with the odd peck.. :PI have a dream:
a dream that, one day, chickens can cross roads without having their motives questioned.
