As part of this new chapter in my life (blah, blah and indeed, blah) I, as in me and my wife-to-be Annie, want to keep a couple of chickens. As she currently lives in Rhode Island, we thought it would be neat to have a couple of RI Reds and have since found out that a local breeder rears a cross between a resilient Scottish breed and the RI Red, so we're going for those! Now I have been offered an old and battered coop FOC, but I reckon it needs so much repairing, I'd be as well building one from scratch - which I'd prefer to do anyway. Plus it's a quite small one and I'd like them to have a bit more room.
So, does anyone have, or know where I can get some plans for a chicken house? More importantly, what I need to provide for them inside - beds and appropriate heights etc. I plan on having a small/medium house and positioning it at the foot of the garden with a long(-ish) run in front of it that will be mainly in shade. There will be both grass and earth areas for them. Any pointers would be great!! Can almost taste those omelette's now.... (drools Homer Simpson-style)
