A while ago I asked how many chickens should people have on an allotment because I thought a chap had too many. Recently he has had a visit by the council and has been told to get rid of some as he has too many, uncover them to let in more light which he has done and it looks so much better.

I did have 20, but a visit from a fox (3) and illness (1) has taken that down to 16.
They have a 7x7 ft shed where they sleep nest and occasionally shelter from rain. This is attached to a 30ft x 10ft (approx) run. Half of the run is covered in tarp to give some protection from rain, the other half is open. Chicken wire covers roof to try to stop foxy getting in.
20 is the maximum I would ever have in that size run, they had enough room to pootle about without being all on top of each other.Last edited by kirsty b; 17-07-2008, 03:28 PM.Kirsty b xx
