  • chicken shed roof

my neighbour is wonderful, he was out yesterday, and someone offered him this ... how cool it's going to eventually be the roof of the chicken house, we have abandoned the idea of the mini for various reasons, and have decided to build them a shed, with a big run attached...... well when i've finally got somewhere to put it ..... complicated by building work at the back of the garden, but it's such a cool roof ...... although son and his friend who will be building the chickens shed pulled a face about tne fact that it will now have to be 8 sided (they still want the mini) and think we should make it into a fish pond. actually it would make a fantastic pond, but i'm determined to get some chickens so they will just have to get over it ...... now i just have to get some wood to make the walls

scuse the crap piccy think it must have been bad lighting or something, they all came out like this and i'm too lazy to go and take some more

That looks great- it'll be a pretty cool looking shed! If you wanted to make it simpler, you could just build a square shed and let the roof stick out either end- depends on how many chooks you need room for, I guess.

wasn't thinking of having too many, but if i build it big i can get more later the good bit is though it will be big enough to store stuff like food, in one end and have them in the other end, and hopefully it will be big enough for a couple of little ducks too ... i like ducks they're quackers lol

don't tell the kids we can make it square i want an eight sided one ..... it's getting exciting now though

Another option would be to make the main house square, but put nestboxes under the projecting roof (one end or both) then you can make the 'roof' of the nest box just a hinged flap which will open for egg removal without going inside the house. The other option is to make the walls from plywood, which can be bent into curved shapes for the ends leaving 2 straight sides.....
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

it's definitely going to take some working out, i'll have to see how much free wood i can get, gonna be a while before we can build it yet, but at least we now have a starting point, just have to work out where it's going to go now. and become an architect, i've ordered some chicken house plans, so it can be custom built with everything they might need in it ..... and right now i haven't a clue lol, but they will hopefully be very happy chickens
