thanks girls - ive been out in garden with them for last hour. You should have seen all the rescue hens, really bedraggled and fearful. They were rescued at 10 this morning and I picked mine up at 3. God what they must have been through in their little lives, they are really light (compared to my other two) and have about a third of their feathers missing one little mite (as yet unnamed- although i fancy itchy and scratchy forthe pair!) has no (yes no) feathers on her breast. She's quite shell shocked and hasnt moved from her little shady spot in the garden. T'other one isbolder and is moving around pecking at the ground. I decided to put all hens together with a corridor for roxy and maisie to get to other part of garden if they wish - which after a short introduction and much clucking (but thankfully no pecking -good girls) they did. Also have very big wattles which are light pink , but im told this is because theyuse them to regulate their heat and its constantly hot in battery prison.

Maureen - i want to be rescued too!

          Hi Francesbean,

well done for collecting your ex-batts! Hope they settle down quickly. I have just registered to home some ex-batts from bhtw. (My nearest co-ordinator will be Essex.) How long did you have to wait to get your hens and I thought min numbers was 3 hens?

Hubby has still yet to finish building wooden hen house (we plumped for the wooden idea.), I'm not much help as the plans are in his head and they keep changing - the plans! Not his head! He's not worzel gummage!

I hope to get some bantums as soon as house finished! I'm going chicken crazy with the researching I'm doing!!!

Hello bit random perhaps but im looking to rehome a lovely silky has turned out he is a boy and has started crowing this week, (this is his only downfall as i am surrounded by neighbours) the farm where I got him didnt have too much information on him so im not certain of his age, (at a guess i would say under a year) he is hand tame, and although male happy to encourage brooding with my girls sitting with them for hours on end he is not afraid of dogs.
I am looking to rehome him in a nice envirinment and not just offload him wherever I can, my neighbours are understanding and have given me as much time as it takes to find him a good home.
As a pet or If you know of anyone that is looking to breed chickens he is a great addition as very broody however someone looking for simply egg production this would be less benificial (my girls stop laying when they brood)
please please please to anyone that can help we will of course pay towards settling in and also deliver him. We are based near southend on sea essex.
