  • Beak rubbing?

The chooks seem to rub there beaks sideways on hard wooden objects as if they were cleaning it. Is this normal behavior?

Sorry for all the daft questions but I've just sat for about one hour watching them. Facinating and mesmerising.

I had a listy of stuff I needed to get done on the allotment and what do I do?...............turn into a chicken voyeur!

From what I remember of chicken behaviour it is quite normal Snadger.

      beak rubbing

My three little ladies do it especially when they've had a tasty slug, 'cos they can be bit sticky.

How much are you enjoying having chooks!!
I also think it's normal~a way of cleaning their beaks after a sticky feed.Ours do it after a porridgy/sticky stodge concoction.

          Hi
They usually use my shoes as a handy beak cleaner, especially after slugs, very pleasant.

All mine wipe their beaks after juicy / messy food, usually on the bit of grass that's left in the run, then they eat it up - suppose it's a bit like licking your lips
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

my 3 hens rub thier beaks on a hard surface too... I think they are doing it to sharpen them up to get a better reaction from me when they peck me!
