Never test the depth of the water with both feet

The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory....

Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.

It's a cheaper option than POL, but considering they amount of raising they need, and how much younger they are than POL, they aren't that good value for money.

        Happy searching!!
Surely they would be ready for laying at almost a year old, POL is suppoed to happen around 5-6 months. I'm sure I read that somewhere!
Well I hope so at least, as I got 2 Lavender Pekin's 2 weeks ago aged 2 weeks old, and to be honest it don't cost a great deal to raise them at all.

They are currently being housed in a large indoor cage in my living room, and am only a 3rd of the way down the 5kg bag of crumbs I went to buy for them (Cost me £3.95). A bit of sawdust to line the cage and a light to give them some warmth. Although mine have been off it now for a week both day and night, and they still strive.

As they were so young when I got them, i'm hoping they will be hand reared enough to be able to pet them without the peril's of being flapped in the face as often as I get with my 4 ex-batts.

It's all part of the fun!

You're probably not wrong with the POL - I understand it to be around 20wks+ but my initial thread was posted 03-08-2008! I would hope those little babies are now laying - but they were sold a long time ago!

Hope your pekins are doing great! I like the lemon cuckoo ones but wonder how to look after them with their feathery feet!

Am quite tempted by raising little chicks - so I'm keeping away from Woodside's petshop and the hatching eggs on sale at Thornes! I'm working on the belief of "outta sight , outta mind!"

Oh yeah, didn't notice! Bit out of sorts today with the weather being on the wet side.
So much to do, but the weather has stopped play.

I've wondered the same thing, even as chicks they still get poop stuck to them! It's disgusting, but I try to pull of the not so stubborn bits and am constantly poo picking.
Dread to think what it's gonna be like when they do finally get put outside with the others! God help me!

lol! You realise that now! Especially as you are now 'committed'! I will find out how you get on with these before I jump in! They lay really teeny eggs!

                  Hello,

I bought a couple of chickens and some food from Home a few weeks ago (based in Essex) and found them very helpful, friendly etc - would use again.

Hi Naomi - welcome to the grapevine. Can you put where you are in your user details? How are your chickens getting on - got names for them? (We're friendly but dead nosey here!)
