  • Best way to keep Roland away?

I've just got my chooks and hopefully foxproofed the run but have worries about rats.

The layers pellets are in a container in the hut suspended from the ceiling and 6 inches from the floor.

I feed them a few handfuls of corn well away from the hut and hopefully they will have scoffed it all by bedtime.

Greens are fed in a seperate area away from the hut.

I keep their pellets at home in the garage and only bring enough to fill the feeder each day and the corn is in a large aluminium pan with a lid in the greenhouse at the other end of allotment.

I have no rats at present but can I do anything more to stop them arriving?

We had rats and ended up foxproofing the run by sinking in some sheet metal vertically around the perimeter to about 8-10 inches depth to stop them digging in

Only other thing is we lift the feeder when we shut the chooks into the house at night (as we have a fox & pine marten problem) and pop it in the feed bin (metal dustbin)

Haven't seen any more evidence of ratty lately.....
