  • How high can hens jump???

HELP! We decided to fence of part of the garden for the chooks coz they're scratchy little mares and have spoilt quite a few of my nice plants. So now, they've got their bit and we,ve got our bit. Problem is they're not satisfied with their bit and keep hopping over into ours! They have had they're wings clipped but still managed to hop over the 4foot 2 fence! Can anyone suggest how high I would need to make the fence?

Is there a stable (not wobbly) top to the fence? Mine is chicken wire, about 3'6" high and because they can't balance on it, they don't jump over. Mind you, one day last week Iris was chasing a fly, took a running jump at it and accidentally landed on my side of the garden. The look on her face was a picture "Oh, there's grass over here, have you seen this girls, I've got some grass over here". I told her she was a naughty girl and opened the gate, she trotted back "home" really pleased with herself. She hasn't tried again, neither have the others ............................ so far!!!
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

Put a top on it and it doesn't matter how high they jump. Also keeps Raynard out, hopefully!

My boyfriend wont let me get any table birds because he says they will wreck the garden. At the moment we have 3 bantam hens which haven't done anything to the garden (had to fence off the vege patch because the little buggers ate all my peas!). I'm devastated because I really want some!
