  • One small step for chook kind.............

My first chucky egg! First of many I hope.

The chooks have started to 'chuck-chuck' at me, their combs have started to redden and they come running when I go near the pen!

Cripes, I lovvvvve those chooks. Even though I've only had one egg I wish I'd got poultry years ago!

Crap photo I know, but it's mine all mine!

    I'm smitten!

PS And my german Shepherd pup's just came into heat as well for the first time! Must be something in the air!

Yehey!Well Done!Obviously happy in their new home! Just wait til they start chucking 10 a day at you!! I reccomend keeping a pencil handy to pop the date on so you don't end up with a mini egg mountain not knowing which is the freshest!

More like an auld Mother hen!

I'm sick of trying to teach them to speak English so now I've adopted the stance 'When in Rome do as the Romans do!'

                    Well done Snadger's chook!

I was surprised to read you ate it straight away Snadger - thought you might have named it and put it on a pedestal to admire for a day or so first

To be honest I wanted to know what a FRESH egg tasted like and now I know, so Tesco's can stick there eggs where................well basically where they came from.
I got another egg yesterday and ate it soft boiled for my brekkie today.

Guess what, I got THREE eggs today, two in the nesting boxes and one on the table they perch on. The one on the table had a bit of poo on it and as I was washing it I cracked it. No problem it's still in one piece as the inner skin wasn't broken, but methinks I need to be feeding them some extra grit to thicken the shells.
At this rate I'll be on full production by the end of next week. What the chuff am I going to do with 70 eggs per week? Answers on a post card to Snadgers crazy hen hut please!

We in same position as you~for some bzarre reason thought if we're gonna be going to lottie 3 times a day to see to their needs we might as well make it worthwhile & get 10!!Scary thing is,as they're all indistinguishable(is that the right word?)brown hens we thought it'd be nice to get the kiddies 2 different ones they could adopt as pets!!~come September we'll have 12 layers!!
I know it's not totally above board but we have friends & family more than happy to take surplas off our hands & their payment is considered a contribution in the upkeep!~so we're not really making money from the lottie~just gone into partnership with those that wish to help out!!

I took a photo of my girl's first eggs too!! When I go and feed the battery-pack I whistle to them & now when I go and whistle in the garden they all come running from what ever they are doing - who said chickens were stupid?
