candling is holding a very bright light behind the egg so you can see inside. this way you can see if they are likely to have a chick or are no good. now don't ask me if any of mine are no good because i haven't a clue! my eggs all seem to look pretty much like pics i've seen on internet but this is my first time and i'm not really sure i know what i'm doing!!! i console myself with the thought that at least i am trying to hatch them and the seller would have thrown them away if i hadn't bought them so at least they have a chance! i must say i am more excited about these chicks than i was about my own kids - must be a moral there somewhere!!

Wow, thanks for explaining and how lovely, I never knew you could do that! I'm only going to have ex-batt girls so no hope of chicks, but then I've always known I'll be human chickless too, so that's fair enough

I haven't candled my"cheep" R.I.D.'s but they are due to hatch in about a week.
