I have mine in a huge fenced off area and the pop hole is open the whole time. Mine quite frequently choose to camp out and not just in the Summer either!
Even when its really chilly out, as long as it's dry, they sometimes choose to roost outside.
When I first got them I used to close the pop hole each night as I was a little concerned about them getting cold but then one night I thought the OH had closed it and he thought that I had done it and when I took the pooch for a midnight stroll all but two of them were nestled up together on the upper outside bars, they looked really cosy!
