I've heard it said that point-of-lay hens bought at this time of year sometimes don't really get into laying until spring. However, some poultry fanciers prefer this because the hen is more mature and less likely to have problems laying the first eggs.

Hopefully soon to have 4 warrens (I think that's what the lady said she had available). Went to a poultry sale and auction yesterday and didn't manage to buy anything but chatting to someone later was put in touch with a lady with layers for sale. These four have been through their first moult and are coming back into lay now - ideal for us!Happy Gardening,
