You need to get your own back Hashette. Take a couple of eggs in to work on a Friday and tell the "wind-up merchant" that you are trying to hatch them. Ask if he or she will look after them for the weekend as you are going to be away - they must be kept warm and turned every four hours, including at night!!
Gardening is a matter of your enthusiasm holding up until your back gets used to it.
Of course unfertilised eggs won't hatch. There is only one recorded instance of Virgin Birth (and many dispute that one) so why would it work for chickens?
The bit about blood on the yolk of fertile eggs is 'not quite that simple'. Not all fertile eggs have blood-spots, and some unfertile ones do (but it is broadly accurate).
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.
