Today was as long as I was prepared to let my ex bat clucker sit! I took her last egg from her which when I smashed it was also a dud! Stripped out the broody pen I'd built around her prefered nestbox and chucked her out with the rest while I set to thouroughly cleaning the coop.
I was a bit dismayed that the others seemed to be picking on her but hopefully she'll eventually find her own niche in the pecking order?
I let the hut 'air' for three hours as I'd used Armillatox to clean it, then opened the hatch and let them back in. Looking inside half an hour later I noticed she was back sitting. As I went to shift her she growled and attacked me. Funny I thought, all through her broody period she'd been quite placid.
Went back into the pen and there she was huddled in the corner defensively.
Then the penny dropped.......I've got ANOTHER clucker!
So I couldn't mix them up, as I don't want Tush sitting any longer, I put a dab of paint on her back (it's all I had at the time.)
Tomorrow if when I go in they are BOTH sitting on newly laid unfertilised eggs I will turf Tush off as she's got to be well knackered now........but what to do with other, I don't know yet?
She's very aggressive this one, not like Tush at all, and I'll have to decide what I am going to do tomorrow if she's still sitting!
Funnily enough, I have 10 chooks, one was broody but I was only geting 8 eggs. The rest are full crested, even the NEW broody so maybe this has been coming on for a week or so and she's waited until poor Tush got turfed out!
Curioser and curioser was the cry!
