  • 300 ex batts and 2 bantams.

OK, so I helped out at the rehoming day (Home) yesterday and was surprised by the condition of the hens, they were pretty good, the odd oven ready one, but on the whole not bad. One lady cried before she even saw them and said she didn't want to pick, just 'give me any'! Bless her, so we tried to give her some that had a few more feathers and a couple of skinny ones as we felt she'd really notice if they weren't eating enough.
There were a couple with massive combs, that flopped over their eyes, but on the whole they were pretty good and we didn't even need to clip their nails.

So I thought I'd be coming home with some of them to be honest, but so many people wanted them and they have 4000 people on their waiting list I didn't feel they needed my help especially and 40% of the peolpe who came yesterday said they would have more!

Sorry this is turning into an essay!

So they had some other chickens that they had rescued as well and I fell in love with some bantams. One is black and booted, tiny littel thing, we've called her Florence and the other is a Japanese bantam of some kind and is black and white, possibly a splash, as yet un-named. Will post some pics when i get home and you can all tellme what they are!! Hoping they are getting on at home, they are feisty little things and took on one of my hybrids! The other 2 hens aren't too bothered, so fingers crossed it will all settle down soon.

Again sorry about the long post, it was a busy day

    Wow, good on you.

I'm on the waiting list but I may go to the warks list as they seem to have places available for November, I think I'll be a crier too

Thought I would as well and got a bit chocked when the trailer arrived with them all on it, thought they'd be some that hadn't made it, but all survived being taken out of their hell hole and the 2 1/2 hour journey back to the yard.
They have a great set up which means they can keep any that aren't adopted or are too sick, but don't think that will be a problem! Only 3 had leg issues and couldn't walk, so they'll be staying for a while.

I'm at hen school Sat 25th near Ipswich at Lesley's (Essex co-ordinator) looking forward to learning about them. We are after 12 chooks and I've told DD that we will have to wait until they have feathers before naming them

I don't think you'll be able to wait until their feathers are back! Their personalities will shine through before then! They are lovely and quite trusting considering what they've been through, wish we could have some but the garden isn't big enough!

They certainly have their own personalities, only had mine from Saturday and they are already all different. The one taht was shy is first out in the mornings and i get a cuddle to boot. Matilda is the brave one and loves the corn and grass.
