  • Here come the girls!

OK, I thought it was about time I put some photos on here and as I have 2 news ones I thought I'd do it today!

In the first photo we have Edna the barred Plymouth cross, Gertrude the lavender Araucana and Mabel who is a buff Orpington cross cream Legbar.

Next up are the 2 newbies, who are settling in well, not too much argueing, they stay out of the way on the perches (outside) and the roof of the house. In the second photo is Florence and the third is Petunia. I'm open to suggestions as to what they are! They are tiny, like teeny weeny! But very feisty!

I can't understand what the problem would be with anyone keeping a few chooks in their garden. I mean, don't they allow people to keep dogs & cats? What would be so terrible about a few chooks?

I feel sorry for you - you can baby sit mine for me when we go away.

council is one thing, they still abide , in the most part by the ethos of self sufficiency when it come to animals.Housing assc are by definition a different matter, they may well house you, but are bound by different rules, their argument is neighbour complaint, smell/noise etc and although they are bound by housing rules, they are 'different' one instance is child age which qualifies you for more bedrooms, council have a rule at a certain age and sex, housing assc works on a points system regardless of sex until 3 years over and above council rules, its all wierd, and when it comes to simple things like bonfires and animals they can set their own rules, each animal has to have written permission, bonfires at any time for any reason are forbidden, this has nothing to do with council rules or bylaws, it is in effect private rented accomodation....... bummer
the difficulty only presents itself, when you are on the council list for a house, you get offered what comes up, housing asc, or council, refuse you get bumped to the bottom of the list, so there is no real choice, and if you accept, you accept the rules that apply.

well trust me, i don't give up, i made them bend over on the bonfire rule, on religious grounds I don't give up easy , just need to find a reason to have chooks that they cant get away with saying nay on, anything PC enough usually works

You could try something about a religious need for organically fed and REALLY FRESH eggs, which cannot be supplied any other way.....

We will all need to research some far out reason for keeping chickens in your own garden!

I'm sure together we can work something out!

LOL, between catholic saints days and pagan festivals, we can pretty much cover any day on religious grounds, and you wouldn't believe how fast they back peddle when you bring it up.
