Hey BrideX111, why not get two hens, they don't crow, so you won't get complaints on noise nuisance grounds.

Then, if anyone complains, just say you are looking after them for a friend or relative while they are away on holiday - it's not your fault you have lots of chicken-owning friends that you hen-sit for, if you get my drift!

Yeah, I'm sure they back peddle as a hell of a rate. Everyone is so scared of offending someone now...or appearing non PC. I say play up on it until you get your girlies!!
I love to talk about nothing. It's the only thing I know anything about!!

Sorry Noodle, so busy being devious, I forgot to say how lovely 'The Girls' are. My friend 'Moose' has 3 or 4 Araucanas in her collection and they lay lovely greeny-blue eggs.

I like the look of Mabel too - what is it about hens?

Bride, how about getting letters from your neighbours on either side confirming that they don't object, and then writing to the Housing Association asking for permission? If you make it clear that you're not getting a cockrel, say you'll re-home them if they ever cause a nuisance in the future, and slap on the PC arguments with a trowel (sorry.....) it might work.

Thanks! Gertrude is the only one out of the lot who's laying!! I've got no idea how old the 2 banties are so don't know when they'll start, they have tiny combs, but don't know if that's just a breed thing or not. Not too worried though, they are just so pretty and friendly!

Mabel is the OH's favourite, he says she looks like hens are meant to!
