GO TO BED!! the chicks will be here in the morning, i have finished a bottle and am nicely 'primed' and i will not be tempted to broach No 2, so go to bed, and get up early to check...............you know it makes sense , besides TPrachett calls, i feel the need, the need to go read.

My cat got me up at 6 and I just HAD to see if there was any news. I'll be back in a bit when I've stopped pacing the floor and got my own big chooks up and breakfasted
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

                Good Morning Maureen and Jilly,

I was woke up at 3 with the biggest 'CHEEP' I'd ever heard and guess what she'd made it.

I would like to introduce everyone to ickle incie wincie.

And the even better news is another one has started to hatch, the shell has a big crack in it, I hope it is quicker as she was exhausted. I am leaving her in the incubator for a bit to keep warm an encourage the other lazy ones.

                    • OMG. Does anyone know where I can get a crash helmet and padding in chick size? She isn't have much luck with those big clumsy feet of hers, she keeps tripping over them falling on her back then looking at them so I think we can safely say she has found her feet (even if it is just to look at when lying on her back).

                              • How long ago were the eggs 'set' in the incubator? If they are overdue (but still live), the temp might be a bit low. Sometimes a new-hatched chick will 'do the splits' and have trouble standing. The books say you can't solve the problem and cure them, but I have done it a couple of times. It only works on the tiny backyard scale, because it requires very frequent checking for a day or so.
