  • Linda, If you do finally decide the eggs won't hatch, I would advise you not to open them to see what might(or might not) have been. It will make you sad.

    • I agree...I wouldn't imagine it'll be a pretty sight. I'd just dispose of them, lovingly!!...and try again in the Spring!

      • friday i think, and i have to open them, cos i want to make sure they grew, and what i was seeing on candling was actually babies and not black goo ....... i'm already sad, but at least i'll know i did everything else right.

                        No don't. I had a broody last year who gave up and left the nest go cold with a week to go. When I very carefully removed the eggs, one burst on me and I was treated to the sight of a dead chick, and I have never smelt so bad in my life.

                        Such a shame lynda. Better luck next time.

                          • well guess i could give you an update ..... the 2 fertile eggs babies move up and down the egg when i candle it ....... guess that means they are alive then ...... well today is day 16, and i'm trying to work out when they will be born, so right now .... well i dunno, depends if they hatch as bantams or large fowl (they are large fowl eggs but small) guess we'll have to wait and see

                              • yup i'll get some chickies one day ....... but getting very excited again now, they are still moving in the egg when i candle it and today is day 17,
